OMBC-East Fork State Park Mountain Bike Race

I joined the other 20 or so, I think Masters racers at the start, just behind the other youngsters in the Sport Group.
A really fun, "rollout" as our announcer and race promoter, Ryan O'Dell captured it over his PA horn. The rollout consisted of a paced line double wide throttling it up the big ass hill from the beach area and registration location. I was fourth, then third, then second with tons of gas to spare and could have been the first for sure up the hill in my big ring even, but I knew the head wind was coming and decided to tuck in low behind Mr. giant pace car guy. Since I was playing nascar I couldn't see when we were supposed to get off the pavement and onto the grass on the right side of the road and got passed by the dude behind me. I was sitting third going into the woods. Feeling good. The first section of trail was lame and full of snotty water, slick roots and oddly placed rocks that seemed to be there to 'pave' the trail. Then after some winding about, the trail opened up to a nice faster section of ridge trail.

(PIC) my hate face? not sure what this is about...but still funny. Thanks for Jeffrey for coming out to take pics of the race.
