Who doesn't like to ride when it's oh um 30 degrees? or let's just go with a safe 35 degrees? The normal temperature in central Ohio most of the winter months can vary from 50 degrees (our yearly normal) to 15 degrees from December to April. My least favorite thing about riding outside in the cold is having cold feet or cold toes. I hate it I hate it I hate it. The best thing about riding in the cold is when you get it 'all right' - your head, hands, body, legs, knees and feet are all toasty goodness. That is a good day on the bike.
I was remembering tonight on the treadmill - I figure it's about a 20 minute monkey exercise - just getting ready to go on a winter ride, not including gathering-filling bottles, food/phone baggie, walking out to the garage, pumping up the tires - I would say it's about a 30 min or so process.
Anyway - So, what better way to make my toes happy but to pick up some nice winter road riding shoes. I got these for a steal...through some "connections". I don't want to say they "fell off of a truck" but almost. If Vinnie The Fish was selling them on High st. that's about what I paid. I guess the guy was ready to just get anything for them, he wasn't going to use them and hey they fit me perfect. Ck it - still have the tags. Also - please note the silicone in the sole, seller said they came that way from Italy? hmmm ok I don't really care - one less thing I would have to do before I go use them in January outside. I will try to post up a report on the shoes after a few rides. It will be interesting to see if I will still need bootie covers with these bad boys. My house rule is always 48 degrees = bootie time.
