Wow that fukin hurt. I somehow got stupid in the heat and my suffering and lost track of my laps. I was supposed to do four, only did three.
Worst course, worst course design, worst trail ever.
It would have taken me another 45 min to do another lap. My average speed was 5 mph. We spent more time going up and walking our bikes up these stupid steep hills.
I wanted to kick someone in the balls for designing that race.
Sorry Ben. I don't really mean it.
I am tired, stupid and cranky.
However, Tim brought home 3rd place in the sport.
Kelley got first in his second ever mountain bike race, novice.

Update almost a week later:
So, here's the map of this place and our "race course".
So, in a coherant state and not from my phone, I am still alive after this beating we took at this place. I am sure after watching most of the awards, that Ryan was very sorry and apologetic about this course. I am sure he knows now he must be more involved with the course designs moving forward. He's always done a great job with races and organization of them.
I am not sure what my problem was, the heat, the severe lack of sleep the week of or what. I had no energy. The start was nothing really crazy, on a short gravel road section up hill then into the woods on the right. I think it was a combination of lack of sleep, lack of eating enough, heat and just not my kind of course. There were folks in the woods, telling us where the lap points were for novice, sport and expert, in my haze of suffering I just couldn't seem to remember what lap I was on, where the actual lap points were and after three laps, mentally I had enough.
The only reason I went on to lap 3 was to pick up my bottle I had left beside a tree early in lap 1. I knew I would need it with the heat and lack of wind and air in the woods. Well, as I fought to get to lap 3 and find my bottle, I looked at the tree and it was gone? WTF? I ask a guy that I had seen standing before it, he said he never saw it...as I ride down the trail, I see my bottle thrown down in the woods, just off trail. Really? someone picked up my bottle and drank out of it? It just summed up the day.
Post race I was handed a bottle of water as I lay on the gravel parking lot after the finish line. After two cold Pepsi's and about 30 minutes of sitting staring into la la land I was able to get changed and clean up and almost have a conversation with words that made sense. The mosquito's in this place were after mass amounts of blood and they got some from me for sure.

As it related to climbing and a road ride, it would take
me 5-6 hours in Asheville, NC to do about 5k-7k of climbing and that
would include at least one 10 mile climb. The miles for this type of
climbing would be around 60-80. So, basically, this race at 16 miles was
1/2 of the climbing I did this year on our first day in Asheville at triple the miles. Perspective?
