Well, 2010 is here folks. It's almost February and I am a few weeks into training.
I have been outside on the weekends as much as possible, trying to get in some semi-long road rides or mountain biking as the weather co-operates here in Globalwarmingville.
A few weeks ago, during our snow storm I dragged Tim and Ben with me up to our local mtb trail for a 4 mile ride in 8-12" of snow, on the 6 mile loop. Needless to say 3 hours later, we were pretty blown. It was fun to try to ride, but towards the end, we were all like it's WHAT time? This is a trail, mind you that usually takes us less than 30 min to complete in dry conditions - so pretty hillarious.
Last weekend, I got to help in the celebration of my Father-in-law's birthday. Us "kids" and said Father and Mother in law all went for what was supposed to be a short meadow walk for 2 miles or so. Well, that turned into a 6.5 mile hike, when I had no water or bars with me. It's an amazing part of Ohio, Clearcreek Park, that I had never seen or experienced before, so I didn't mind too much - the company was great too.
Brother in law, Tim and I had planned to ride home after the hike, after a quick lunch and some other celebrations. After lunch, hanging out and getting bike stuff in order, we didn't leave Amanda till 3p.m. - late. We thought our route would get us home in about 2 hours or so, but had no idea it was a 3 hour ride. It was a great route Tim planned out and ended up being 3 hours 1 min and just over 50 miles with some good climbing and elevation involved. The fitness is coming around.
Hitting the gym and weights as much as possible and changing up the eating habits to try to come out of February a little thinner than last year.
< My annual riding trip to Asheville, NC is coming together nicely. Looks like I have a good group of folks to join me again in this 5 day ride trip. Back at the same downtown hotel as 2009 - very convenient. Hoping to find a route to Lake Lure this year. Stunning.
A new bike is on tap for the mountain biking season. I'll save that supprise when I know for sure it's going to happen - all I can say is it will be sick and who doesn't love a new bike.
In trying to plan out my racing and riding for 2010, I will spend a more time on the mtb bike this year. I am not sure about road racing quite yet. Those may become a 'week of' decision. I hope to return to my favorite crits and one or two new ones depending on timing.
I already signed up for the Cohutta 100 and the Mohican 100. Once registraton opens up for the Lumberjack 100, I will be doing that as well.
Cyclocross season is only 8 months away and I am sure I'll be back to killing it, hopefully on a sexy new carbon cross frame.

The Asheville sounds like a lot of fun! This really great hostel just opened up downtown and is right on top of Asheville's newest brewery if that sounds interesting you should look into it.
